We are experiencing a moment of the annihilation of man as the image of God
In a brief scan of the Florida Times-Union today, I saw it mentioned that June has been designated (by somebody) as “LGBTQ Pride Month.” I was then reminded of the escalation that has been taking place, not only in our country, but throughout the world, in promoting the many lies, untruths, and deceptions regarding homosexual behavior, same-sex attraction, gender dysphoria and quite simply…the call to chastity in general. The activists have quite cleverly amalgamated (for strength in numbers) these widely diverse behaviors under one common banner, adding new letters to their alphabetized acronym. Quite ironically, they appropriated the rainbow as their symbol, the beautiful sign our Creator initiated after the devastating floods. In Genesis 9: 13, 17, God spoke….“I set my Bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the Covenant between me and the earth… God told Noah: ‘This is the sign of the Covenant I have established between me and all mortal creatures that are on earth’.”
I would like to note that Bishop Thomas Tobin, of the Providence, Rhode Island Diocese, has raised the alarm about LGBTQ Pride, as the movement begins its annual advocacy in this month of June. He issued a statement on Twitter this past Saturday, urging caution to all Catholics about events celebrating gay pride month. He tweeted: “Catholics should be very wary of events in the June LGBTQ month. It’s not a fun-filled, family-friendly celebration of respect. It promotes a lifestyle and agenda that, in the extreme, is morally offensive.” I would echo the good Bishop’s call to caution, and would urge all of us to educate ourselves as to what is happening in our country, in our state, and here in our local county school systems. The mis-information and lies about “being born that way” and the normalcy of “transgender” phenomenon has infiltrated our State and local school systems. You need to become aware of and know what is being taught regarding the morally reprehensible lifestyles. You will find that your recourse to appropriately assess and treat any of these gender confusions has become almost totally eliminated.
Back in February, Ohio government authorities forced parents to give up legal custody of their daughter after the mother and the father said that they oppose the girl’s decision to identify as a “boy” and transition to being “male.” Family services took custody of the 17-year-old girl, who according to court records suffers from gender dysphoria. If you are a parent, grandparent, or guardian of a school child, I highly recommend that you inquire, at their schools, not only about what they are teaching as regards these multiple moral issues, but also what their policies are regarding their intervention when any gender or sexuality issues arise as regards their students.
Last October I attended a Conference at St John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver, Colorado, that was advertised as a conference for: “Framing a Catholic Response to ‘Gender’ Ideology.” There were eight expert presenters from legal, psychological, theological, pediatric and surgical medical fields. The goal was to explore constructing an authentically Catholic response to gender ideology from the medical, psychological, philosophical, theological, pastoral and legal perspectives. It was concluded that all of the information being conveyed by major corporations and the heads of media and the entertainment industry was convoluted. It was egregiously false and tempered to fit in with the overall propaganda that the LGBTQ used to proclaim discrimination. To counteract that propaganda, the session concluded that all Catholics, individually, needed to become well informed and to boldly speak out the truth.
In closing, I would mention that the church does indeed face a serious challenge from an organized and sweeping agenda, which Pope Francis has characterized as “ideological colonization.” Here are his comments to the Bishops of Poland: “we are experiencing a moment of the annihilation of man as the image of God.… In Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and in some countries of Asia, there are genuine forms of ideological colonization taking place. And one of these, I will call it clearly by its name, is [the ideology of] “gender.” Today children… children!!!…are taught in school that everyone can choose his or her sex. Why are they teaching this? Because the books are provided by the persons and institutions that give you money. These forms of ideological colonization are also supported by influential countries. And this is terrible!”
As regards the gay lifestyle, we must certainly be empathic and loving of each individual we encounter. The Catholic Church clearly differentiates between human beings and sexual urges, and does not identify individuals by sexual inclinations. It says that while same-sex attraction is not a sin, homosexual acts very much are. The church also clearly teaches that sexual relations are reserved for marriage, which is between a man and a woman (CCC-2360). Church teaching also states that homosexual tendencies are objectively disordered, and that individuals who experience them “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regards should be avoided” (CCC-2358). However the Church also teaches that homosexual acts are “acts of grave depravity” and they “are intrinsically disordered,” and further…that “under no circumstances can they be approved” (CCC-2357). The Church also says, that “homosexual persons are called to chastity” (CCC-2359), which is also what its teaching says about all people… all of us. And, it most clearly teaches us… to never love the sin, but always love the sinner.
